Members of the House of Representatives have elected Femi Hakeem Gbajabiamila, who represents Surulere 1 federal constituency in Lagos state, as the Speaker of the 9th Assembly.
Mr. Gbajabiamila defeated Umar Mohammed Bago, representing Chanchaga federal constituency in Niger state.
Mr. Gbajabiamila scored 281 votes while Mr. Bago polled 76.
Mr. Gbajabiamila is emerging the speaker in line with the wish of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Member-elect, Abdulmumin Jibrin has Femi Gbajabiamila.
His nomination was seconded by PDP member-elect, Linda Ikpeazu.
Gbajabiamila simply said he accepts the nomination.
Abubakar Yunus Ahmad from Gombe state nominated Umaru Bago, while another member-elect on the platform of the PDP from Benue state, Mark Gbilla seconded.
Wase is Deputy Speaker
Meanwhile, member-elect, Ahmed Idris Wase, representing Wase federal constituency in Plateau state is now the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.
Wase, who stood unopposed was the immediate Deputy House leader.
