D’Tigress qualify for 2020 Olympic Games

Nigeria women’s basketball team, D’Tigress have qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The team secured their ticket to the Olympics despite losing to host, Serbia 70-64 on Saturday at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

USA ensured Nigeria ladies get their Olympics ticket, after a 124-49 victory over Mozambique, who had lost their opening game 81-51 to the D’Tigress on Thursday.

D’Tigress last appearance at the games was the 2004 edition in Athens.

Nigeria had the edge during the early stages, but Serbia made their move with a pivotal 16-4 spell across the first and second quarters to get a 33-26 lead.

There was a third successive fourth quarter comeback on Day 2 in Belgrade as Nigeria closed to within six at 59-53 before another Serbian surge sealed the deal.

D’Tigress join their male compatriots, D’Tigers to secure their spots in the Japan Games billed to hold later in the year.
