COVID-19: Nigeria Announces Record Daily Spike of 745


Nigeria on Thursday night reported a spike of 745 new coronavirus cases, the Centre for Disease Control tweeted.

This is the highest 24-hour jump reported in the country so far.

The previous record single day rise was 663.

The latest figures pushes the cumulative total nationwide to 18,480.

The public health agency also announced the discharged of 338 more persons from various isolation centres across the country.

There are now 6,307 recoveries nationwide.

Meanwhile, the death toll went up by 6 on Thursday, taking the number of fatalities to 475.

NCDC said: “On the 18th of June 2020, 745 new confirmed cases and 6 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 18480 cases have been confirmed, 6307 cases have been discharged and 475 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 745 new cases are reported from 21 states- Lagos (280), Oyo (103), Ebonyi (72), FCT (60), Imo (46), Edo (34), Delta (33), Rivers (25), Kaduna (23), Ondo (16), Katsina (12), Kano (10), Bauchi (8), Borno (7), Kwara (5), Gombe (4), Sokoto (2), Enugu (2), Yobe (1), Osun (1), Nasarawa (1).
