Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has resumed legislative duties after spending six months in jail on corruption allegations.
The former Abia state governor attended Tuesday’s plenary session at the upper legislative chamber.
The Senator representing Abia North told journalists before entering the Senate Chamber that he is glad to be back to work and that he needs to hit the ground running to cover up for the loss of time to provide quality representation for his constituents in Abia North.
Senator Kalu was convicted and sentence to a 12 year sentence on December 2019 by a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court for embezzling 7.65 billion Naira belonging to the Abia state government.
However, a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court voided his conviction and ordered a retrial.
He spent five months in prison before his release from the Kuje correctional centre last week Wednesday.
